PROBLEM STATEMENT

A technology company wanted to accelerate its growth and stay ahead of its competitors. To that end, it was important for them to understand the technology landscapes of related areas and acquire relevant patents and organizations using these technologies. However, the task was Herculean because putting together technology landscapes manually takes weeks, and even then, the process may not be foolproof. This happens because many technologies and the organizations using them are excluded. Finally, figuring out how the technologies and patents of the target company fit in with their own also eats into a lot of time.

NEXT STEPS

Since the company was attempting to find a foothold in the technology space, it was keen to explore any product that could help it reach its desired destination. Relecura’s IP tools happened to draw its attention, and it wanted to know more about them. Once it had acquired enough knowledge, a senior member of the IP management team decided to use the Taxonomy feature from Relecura to create landscapes of related technologies and companies owning patents in them. 

RESULTS

The aim of the exercise was to compare the patent portfolios of different target organizations with their own and figure out what they lacked. It also helped them decide which companies were worth acquiring to experience steady growth. In addition, the IP team member was able to set up their system to keep track of the latest technologies in related areas. In the end, the tool helped the company make decisions based on factual data accessed in the least possible time.
