Facebook Inc. – A peek into its patent portfolio

Facebook is a company that needs very little introduction. This social media giant is the fourth-largest Internet company by revenue, with 2 billion monthly active users.

Facebook held few patents of its own prior to its landmark 2012 IPO. In the months leading up to the IPO, it actively looked to bulk up its portfolio with acquisitions from IBM and AOL. Post the IPO, Facebook continued to build out its portfolio by upping its own patenting activity, and adding to its portfolio with periodic acquisitions.
